Mental Health Professionals
School-Based Mental Health Support
The Contract-Based School Staffing Program places trained mental health professionals directly in schools to meet students’ social, emotional, and behavioral needs. TLC counselors, behavior specialists, crisis intervention counselors, and school psychologists provide individual and group counseling for issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, family conflict, bullying, and substance use.
Individualized Student Support
TLC staff offer trauma-informed care, crisis counseling, and de-escalation support for at-risk students. They also provide family counseling to address mental health and relational challenges. For students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), TLC professionals deliver specialized counseling to support their academic and emotional development.
Flexible, Collaborative Roles
TLC staff adapt their roles to meet each district’s unique needs. In addition to direct counseling, they:
-
Serve on Student Assistance Program (SAP) teams
-
Conduct screenings and coordinate with community agencies
-
Support substance use prevention and reentry after hospitalization
-
Help develop mental health curricula and crisis response plans
Strengthening Family & Community Connections
TLC fosters strong school-family-community partnerships. Staff help families access resources, lead prevention and education efforts, and build a supportive network that promotes long-term student success and well-being.
School Climate Coaches
Stronger School Communities
The way a school feels can deeply influence a student’s drive to learn and grow. TLC’s School Climate Coaches play a key role in creating safe, positive, and achievement-oriented school environments. By building strong partnerships with students, educators, and families, our coaches support long-term student success both in and out of the classroom.
Positive Behavior Leadership
Through the School Climate Transformation Grant (SCTG), TLC provides School Climate Coaches, formally recognized as Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) Coaches, to help transform school culture. These professionals work side-by-side with school teams to deliver positive behavior supports, promote student engagement, and foster school-wide change.
Highly Skilled Professionals
TLC’s School Climate Coaches are more than just employees, they are ambassadors of change. Each coach holds a Master’s degree in counseling, social work, education, or a related field. Their expertise is matched by strong interpersonal and organizational skills, allowing them to work effectively across school, home, office, and community settings. Every day brings a new opportunity to make a meaningful connection.
